Inevitable surgical smoke - surgical smoke refers to the gaseous substances produced during surgery, which are formed by high-frequency cautery knife, laser knife, ultrasonic scalpel, high-speed drill, saw blade, instrument burrs and vaporized tissue protein and fat during surgery. Its form is small particles and smoke that can be inhaled and dispersed into the air, with 95% being water and 5% being particulate matter (containing carcinogenic compounds such as chemicals, blood and tissue particles, viruses (including HIV and HPV), and bacteria). The content of hydrocarbons, nitriles, fatty acids, phenols, and other highly toxic substances such as hydrogen cyanide, formaldehyde, and benzene in surgical smoke is high, but it cannot be ignored. In addition, medical personnel may also be exposed to CO, NH3, H2S and other toxic and unpleasant gases generated during laser and Electrosurgery operations.
The smoke generated by medical personnel during laser or other high-temperature cutting surgeries is always combined with aerosols formed by various types of particles in the atmosphere after being released into the atmosphere.
